[Class 40 (vii)] Information received from one or more radar installations watching a navigable area, e.g. a harbour mouth is added at a central station to a chart of the area, e.g. by models of ships, and a representation of the chart so marked is broadcast over the area by television or facsimile telegraphy. A vessel receiving such a picture is able to identify itself by a special marking applied as the result of an identifying signal received by the radar equipment, e.g. from a responder beacon on the vessel. The receiver on a vessel may be arranged to reproduce only a relevant and variable part of the complete picture broadcast, and radial scanning instead of the normal rectangular scanning may be used.
