Abstract
607,361. Sliding doors for vehicles. OVERTON, W. Jan. 31, 1946, No. 3150. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i)] [Also in Group X] A sliding door 13 (see also Group X) for a vehicle, of the type mounted on guide rails by hanger brackets having runners or carriages engaging the rails, is arranged to.be flush with the adjacent parts of the vehicle side in the closed position by providing two rails 16, 17 for the leading and trailing edges of the door (with respect to its closing motion) respectively. At least one (17) of these rails is directed towards the wall at the end corresponding to the closed position of the door. The runners 37, 38 engaging the rails each comprise a roller borne by a pin secured to a sleeve pivotally mounted about a vertical axis on the corresponding hanger bracket 28, 29, the vertical pivot 32 of the trailing bracket being set rearwardly of the trailing edge of the door. The lower edge of the door is guided by studs engaging in grooves in the floor below the door shaped to correspond with the rails 16, 17. The rails 16, 17 are of channel section, the rollers 37, 38 resting on the lower flanges. A buffer strip 11 and a closure strip 24 may be provided. Specification 531,972 is referred to.
