Abstract
606,988. Liners for gun barrels. MAGOS, J. P. Jan. 22, 1946, No. 2166. [Class 92 (ii)] The tapered liner for a gun barrel is formed integrally with a flange which has a number of spaced-apart threaded and unthreaded apertures, the latter serving for the passage of bolts which engage the barrel and thereby hold the liner in position, while the former receive the bolts, after their removal from the unthreaded holes, the bolts then bearing against an end surface of the barrel and serving to withdraw the liner axially from the barrel. In Figs. 1 and 3 the gun barrel 1 has a tapered bore 2 in which a tapered liner 3 fits, the liner being held in position by a bolt 7 which passes through holes 8 in a liner flange 6 and screw into the barrel at 9. The front of the liner is rounded at 5 and makes a gas-tight seal with a corresponding groove in the barrel. To remove the liner the bolts are removed from the holes 8 and are screwed into tapped holes 10 in the liner the screws then bearing against the end of the barrel and forcing the liner to the rear. In a modification, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), the liner is of oval section near the flange as a safeguard against rotation, and the flange fits in a counterbored hole at the rear end of the barrel.
