Abstract

Two clear thermoplastic resins of different refractive index are mixed in powder or granular form, heated to within the softening range of the mixture, and subjected to heat and pressure, e.g. in an injection moulding machine. The product is stated to have the appearance of mother-of-pearl and consists essentially of a moulded heterogeneous mixture of the two resins in the form of a multiplicity of separate but firmly bonded lamell . Resins specified are polymeric methyl methacrylate and polystyrene, cellulose acetate and polymers of vinyl derivatives.
