Abstract
602,828. Agricultural implements. GRAVELY MOTOR PLOW & CULTIVATOR CO. Oct. 17, 1945, No. 27273. Convention date, April 30. [Class 6(i)] A rotary plough for attachment to the front of a tractor comprises rear and forward tubular housings bolted on each side of a gear housing, the forward housing carrying a plate provided with land wheels and the rear housing being secured to the tractor and having mounted within it a driving shaft which drives a plough shaft carried by the gear housing, on which shaft is mounted a rotary plough. In the form shown, the plough comprises a rear tubular housing 15 which is joined at its forward end to a gear housing 16 and is rotatably mounted on an inner sleeve having a rear flange 23 which may be bolted to the tractor (not shown). A driving shaft driven from the power takeoff of the tractor passes through the centre of the housing 15 and, through bevel gearing in the gear housing 16, rotates a polygonal shaft 99 which carries at its lower end a plough assembly comprising blades 109 arranged angularly around the shaft. A forward tubular housing 17 coaxial with the rear housing 15 is bolted to the gear housing and carries at its forward end a split sleeve 63, 64 which is bolted to an upright plate 71 on the lower end of which is mounted an axle 81 carrying land wheels 82. The rotatable mounting of the housings 15, 17 on their sleeves permit the plough shaft to be inclined to the vertical and retained thus by a lever 35 which can be bolted to an extension 42 of the flange 24. A slotted connection between the plate 71 and sleeve 63, 64 permits vertical adjustment of the wheels relative to the plough, and the plough shaft is also adjustable in the gear housing 16 by means of a cotter pin 101 engaging holes 100. A deflecting shield is fixed on the gear housing to limit the scattering of soil by the blades.
