601,764. Wheel tyres. LORD, H. C. Oct. 11, 1945, No. 26556. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1944. [Class 144 (ii)] A cushion tyre comprises circumferentiallyspaced transverse apertures of generally diamond or triangular cross-section arranged in staggered circumferential rows so that, under load, the intervening walls yield radially under shear. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the tyre comprises continuous tread and base portions. and rows 6, 7, 8, 9 of transverse apertures with intervening continuous sinuous walls 10, 11, 12. Figs. 4 and 6 show a modification in which the transverse apertures 6, 8 are of chevron form opening at the median-line of the tyre into a continuous circumferential groove 4. For cooling by air-circulation in running, the wheel rim may be provided with holes communicating with the tyre apertures.
