Abstract

601,482. Hose reels. BOWEN, T. O. Oct. 3, 1945, No. 25660. [Class 99 (ii)] A hose reel consists of a boss 1 with conical end members 7 and tubular cross-pieces 12 with turned-down ends 13 engaging with holes 10 in the end members to hold these members against shoulders on the boss, the cross-pieces when in position forming a support on which the hose can be wound ; the end members have a non-circular central hole for engaging the ends 9 of the boss so that rotation relative to the boss is prevented. The boss is mounted. on a spindle 2 fixed by means of clips 14 to a supporting frame which consists of a triangular strip of metal 15 at each end of the reel, and stay-bars 16 connecting the triangles as shown in Fig. 5. The spindle has an internal chamber 5 connected to an inlet nozzle and also to an annular chamber 3 in the boss, this latter leading to a nozzle 4 to which the hose can be attached ; fluid-tightness, during rotation of the boss relative to the spindle, is ensured by the gland and packing arrangement 6.
