Abstract
600,822. Automatic exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 8, 1944, No. 24602. Convention date, Feb. 12. [Class 40 (iv)] In an exchange system, subscribers' lines have applied to them a voltage characteristic of the class of service to which they are entitled, the various classes being identified at the exchange by valve arrangements, each responsive to a particular voltage. The distinguishing potential S, which may be between - 26 and - 64 volts rising in twovolt steps, is applied over a high resistance rs to the test wire t under the control of the cut-off relay CORWhen the subscriber initiates a call LR connects - C potential to the line finder which then energizes COR over control wire c, this relay then disconnecting the calling potential and connecting the - S potential. A common lead X is connected through first and second identification finders to a series of pairs of triode valves V1, V2, V3, V4, &c. Both valves of any pair only pass current if the potential on wire t is equal to that applied over resistance rr. The combined anode current of the appropriate pair causes a gas-filled valve GV to fire and operate relay GVR followed by identification relay GSR. Specifications 592,846 and 600,458 are referred to.
