[Class 39(iii)] A cooking oven comprises a lagged container A with slideways E on the side walls, on which is slid an electrically-heated plate K with a plug J<1> engaging one of several sockets D arranged at different heights in apertures in the rear of the oven, and heatinsulated shelves M are slid into place above and below the heating plate so that a smaller oven of adjustable size is formed within the container. The top of the oven has an aperture B which may be closed by a slide or the top may be turned up as an anti-splash shield, so that when a heater is slid into the top of the container it forms a hot-plate; and when a heat-resistant shelf M is spaced slightly below, a griller is formed. The heater has a grid-like top and when detached may be placed on a stand for frying, toasting or as an electric fire. The sockets D are mounted on a vertical skeleton bracket N at the rear of the oven and the apertures are covered by sliding doors O when not engaged by a heater socket or are opened for oven ventilation. The heater comprises wire wound on grooved porcelain tubes J mounted on metal rods between metal strips H<1> in a metal frame, on the top and bottom of which slide removable heat-resistant cover plates G<1>. The frame carries metal bars H<2> to support a cooking vessel. Apertures or handles L are formed in the heater, and one of the plates G<1> is removed to limit radiation to one side when in the cooker or detached. The oven may carry two heaters but if the current supply is too light to carry the double load, a switch is fitted so that both heaters cannot be in circuit together. The heat-resistant shelves comprise slag wool in a metal frame.
