Abstract

599,372. Electromagnetic induction heating apparatus. PATELHOLD PATENTVERWERTUNGS- & ELECTROHOLDING AKT.-GES. May 25, 1944, No. 10159. Convention date, June 23, 1943. [Class 39 (iii)] In surface hardening cylindrical metallic work pieces c, the same induction coil is used for work pieces of various diameters by inserting a concentric conductive intermediate element d of suitable dimensions between the induction coil b and the work piece c, so that between the coil and the element as well as between the element and the work piece a continuous uniform cylindrical gap is formed. The intermediate element d is cut open in a radial direction and may be hollow to allow the passage of a cooling fluid therethrough. Specification 599,367 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a corresponding arrangement such as is shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled), for heating the inside surfaces of metal work pieces and the work pieces heated externally may be of any cross-section. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
