Abstract
599,103. Making wire articles. SCROGGS, W. A. Sept. 13, 1945, No. 23634. [Class 83 (iv)] Angular bending; ; twisting wires together.- Hand-operated apparatus for making wire garment hangers comprises a rotary head 15 for twisting and hook-bending, clamps 10b for clamping and angle bending and arms 9 for bending the shoulder portions and stretching the cross-piece 6. The rotary head is locked by a lever 16 and one end of the wire inserted in a hole 15c in a slot 15e in the head and the remainder placed between faces 10b of levers 10 and a stationary plate 13 and around the ends of links 9 supported by levers 7. The other end of the wire passes about a pin 15d on the head. On moving the crank 12 to the slotted position, a cam 14 moves a plunger 11 to swing levers about pivots 10a and the clamps 10b to clamp and bend the wire against the plate 13. The levers 9 are pushed apart to stretch the portion 6 of the wire and to form the shoulder portions. The crank 12 is then rotated to twist the wires in the slot 5b of the head and then swung to its original position, a hook 17 on the crank engaging the wire to bend the hook about a fixed former 18. The lever 16 is then rotated to lock the rotary head to facilitate the removal of the hanger.
