[Class 34 (i)] A fabric, paper &c. web 5, carried by chains associated with a pair of opposed stenter guide rails 6, is dried by passage between upper and lower chambers 12, 12 from which heated air is directed on to both sides of the web through parallel-sided nozzles 34, the moist air being exhausted from above and below the web through return chambers 13, which extend longitudinally one on each side of the chambers 12 and house heaters 15, 15a, by fans 14 located as shown. The arrangement is such that moist air will be drawn off, over, say, the right-hand selvedge of the web and then heated and recirculated to the lower delivery chamber 12 and associated nozzles 34, all in direction generally transverse of the machine, the air drawn off the other selvedge being heated and recirculated to the upper delivery chamber and nozzles. The nozzles 34 may be constituted by spaced channel plates having parallel inclined side flanges, said nozzles being of about 4 inches pitch, “ inch wide and 2 inches deep. Each fan 14 is driven by an electric motor 17 and is preferably of axial-flow type with blades 18, a streamlined fairing 19, and delivery through a diffuser 16 having internal partitions 16a, the diffuser 16 and fairing 19 providing a venturishaped delivery outlet diverging from circular to rectangular formation. The motors 17 are cooled by air which is drawn in through openings in the outer casing 7 of the machine, a corresponding quantity of moist air being exhausted from the machine through outlet apertures, not shown.
