[Class 94 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] In filling an open top container with powdered material to a predetermined level, there is provided an air outlet with an indicating device, e.g., a celluloid ball 27 responsive to the flow of displaced air, which device indicates when air ceases to be displaced by the material sealing the outlet or the inlet at the desired level. In the Figure, powdered material falls from a hopper 3 into a funnel 7 and then into a drum 1 which is placed on a vibratory platform 2 and is closed by a lid 23 attached to the bottom of the funnel 7. Air displaced from the drum, in passing out through an outlet 26 blows a celluloid ball 27 up into a cage 28. When the material piles up to a predetermined level, i.e., the bottom of the funnel 7 (or of the outlet 26 whichever is the lower), the outflow of air ceases and the fall of the ball 27 is the signal for an operator to lower a handle 20 so that the funnel 7 which is supported by stirrups 13 pivots upwardly about a shaft 15 and causes a valve 5 (which is fixed to the funnel) to seal the bottom of the hopper. The upper part 8 of the funnel is of canvas so as to bend. The lid 23 has a felt underside 24 to prevent air escaping and a flange 25 for locating the lid, and may also be secured flush on the end of the hopper 7. 29 is a counterweight.
