Abstract
597,652. Valve amplifying and generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and PARTINGTON, G. E. April 24, 1945, No. 10321. [Class 40 (v)] A valve circuit, for producing oscillations or amplifying selectively, comprises a network, consisting of a resistance R1 and condenser C1 in series with a parallel arrangement of condenser C2 and resistance R2, electromagnetically coupled to the anode-cathode circuit of the valve, the grid being connected to a point on resistance R2. The connections and couplings are such that at the frequencies concerned the grid and cathode potentials are in phase or the grid and anode potentials are in antiphase. The valve operates as a cathode follower, the transformer T having a step-up ratio, between the primary, carrying the cathode current and the secondary, sufficient to overcome the attenuation in the network. By employing a diode D and a resistance and condenser (at point X), the amplitude of the oscillations may be stabilised. A further resistance may be added in series with the network, Fig. 5 (not shown), across which a locking'signal may be applied. The grid may be biassed by a grid condenser and resistance or a cathode resistance, Figs 6 and 7 (not shown), and transformer T replaced by an auto-transformer. By adjusting the tap on resistance R2 so that the circuit is not quite oscillating, the circuit will amplify selectively frequencies near the frequency at which it would oscillate.
