Abstract
597,628. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. April 3, 1940, No. 6043. Convention date, April 5, 1939. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter supplied with air under pressure by a supercharger, the inlet or outlet of which is automatically controlled to maintain a constant pressure at the carburetter intake, means are provided for varying the pressure at the carburetter intake in accordance with the opening of the mixture throttle, and also for varying the richness of the mixture in accordance with the carburetter intake pressure and, in consequence, with atmospheric pressure. Fig. 1 shows one form of the invention having the intake 10 of the carburetter 1 supplied by a supercharger 12, the inlet to which is controlled by a throttle 15 actuated by a servomotor piston 16, the valve 21 of which is connected to a capsule 23 subjected by a pipe 25 to the pressure in the supercharger outlet 14 leading to the intake 10. In order to vary this control in accordance with the opening of the mixture throttle 4, the rod 5 connecting the throttle to a hand lever 6 is formed wih a cam 27 acting on the capsule 23 through a lever 28. The richness of the mixture is varied by a fuel needle 35 connected to another capsule 31 subjected by a pipe 33 to the supercharger outlet pressure. A spring 26 in the rod 5 allows a further action to be given, through the hand lever 6 and cam 27, after, the throttle 4 is fully open, so as to obtain an excessive pressure in the intake 10, for example when the aircraft is taking-off. In modifications, the capsule 31 may control the supply of aerating-air to the fuel nozzle 7, or .may be replaced by a diaphragm acted on at opposite sides by the pressures in the supercharger inlet and outlet respectively, or may control both the fuel and air supply to the fuel nozzle, the former through a fluid-pressure servomotor.
