Abstract
597,579. Control of A.C. motors. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 15, 1945, No. 1213. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1943. [Class 38(iii)] [Also in Group XL] An electric drive system for speed measuring apparatus comprises a variable speed synchronous motor adapted to be actuated in proportion to the speed to be measured and having two current supplies, one adapted to cause actuation of the motor at one speed range and another adapted to supplement the first to actuate the motor at another speed range. A three-phase commutator having four movable contacts arranged at 90 degrees to one another, slip rings 16, 17 and field winding 15 of an A.C. generator 9 are mounted on the shaft of an engine whose speed is to be measured. At low speeds the voltage supplied from commutator 10 through stator coils 29, 30, 31 of generator 9 is sufficient to provide a driving torque for synchronous motor 32 operating indicator 35. At higher speeds, the speed of rotation of coil 15 is sufficient to induce a voltage in generator coils 29,30, 31, which supplements the first voltage and thus increases the driving torque.
