597,567. Electroplating. HOTHERSALL, A. W., HOPKINS, D. W., and MACNAIR, J. L. H. Oct. 30, 1942, No. 15324. [Class 41] Metals, after pickling and prior to electroplating, e.g. with corrosion-resistant metals such as lead, tin and cadmium, in an acid bath containing a protein colloid such as glue or gelatine, are given treatment in an alkaline bath, with or without anodic or cathodic electrolytic action. Mechanical cleaning or, in the case of steel sheet or strip, anodic cleaning in a sulphuric acid bath may precede the alkaline bath treatment. Electrotinning of steel sheet and strip, non-ferrous metals and alloys and lead plating, e.g. bearings, from perchlorate, fluoborate or fluosilicate solutions are mentioned.
