Abstract

597,267. Disinfecting-apparatus. GILBERT, C. Dec. 13, 1944, No. 24996. Convention date, Aug. 7. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 2, 1945.] [Class 26] [Also in Group II] A self-operating device for introducing a regulated quantity of disinfectant into a flushing cistern comprises a substantially air-tight receptacle for said liquid, a bell open at its lower end immersed in the liquid in the said cistern when the latter is filled, tubing connecting the upper part of the said bell with an upper part of the said receptacle, and an adjustable riser ascending from beneath the level of the disinfectant arranged to discharge into the said tank during the filling of the latter from an outside source. In the form shown, when the cistern 10 is emptied, the lower end of the bell 14 is exposed. On refilling the cistern 10, the air compressed in the bell 14 and the receptacle 20 forces some of the disinfectant in the latter into the riser tube made of sections 24, 24<SP>1</SP> joined by the elbow 26, and it is discharged through the aperture 25, regulation of the quantity discharged being obtained by raising or lowering the section 24<SP>1</SP>. The receptacle 20 is refilled automatically through the socket 31 from the reservoir 29, which may be refilled by swinging the receptacle into the position indicated in Fig. 2. A blow-off airvalve 32, shown in Fig. 3, may be fitted to the receptacle 20, to prevent establishment of excess air-pressure and also regulate the quantity discharged. The bell 14 may be made integral with the cistern 10, and the receptacle 20 may be disposed within the cistern or be made to form part of the said cistern.
