Abstract

597,211. Presses for moulding and vulcanizing tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and NORCROSS, T. March 2, 1944, No. 3895. [Class 87 (ii)] One mould section is transversely moved (for the initial stripping of the tyre &c. from the mould surfaces), by means attached to the other section, whilst the sections are opening and closing. Two constructions are described. Fig. 2 shows a press having two mould sections 1, 2, which are opened and closed by linkage 17, guide 18 and fluid-pressure unit 19 as described in Specification 573,101. The lower section is hinged on a fixed pin 3 and the upper section is hinged on a pin 4 which is vertically adjustable in links 6 pivotally mounted on the pin 3. Rigidly secured to the lower section and extending rearwardly of the pin 3 are brackets 10 each carrying a spring-loaded plunger 11 which engages a notch 9 in a link 6. As the press opens, mould section 1 descends and the brackets 10 rise, i.e., turn clockwise about pin 3, and this turning movement is transmitted by plungers 11 to links 6 which also turn clockwise. Accordingly, the pin 4 and the upper section 2 move to the right. Movement of links 6 is limited by stops 23, 24. Fig. 3 shows a press having a lower section 29 which is vertically stationary but horizontally slidable. As the upper section 26 pivots upwardly about a pin 27, a spring-loaded plunger 31 carried thereby rocks clockwise a link 32 (pivoted on 27) to push section 29 to the left. Stops 35, 37, limit the sliding movement. Specification 526,659 also is referred to.
