Abstract

596,629. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., SELL, R. G., and THOMPSON, L. E. July 31, 1945, No. 19614. [Class 37] Rectifier elements 1 are 'assembled on a central bolt 3 and hermetically sealed between cooling plates 2 in cells formed by two adjacent annular ridges 2a on the cooling plates, sealed by a rubber washer 14. Sealing at the ends is effected by a rubber gasket 15 and washer 13, pressure being maintained on all washers by a spring member 11 bearing on an insulating washer 12 and held in place by a nut 10. In a modified construction, the rubber washer 14 may be of suitable dimensions to fill the gap between adjacent cooling plates which are not provided in this case with annular ridges 2a. In a further modification, a single cylindrical tube with cooling fins on the outside may be employed to house the several rectifier elements.
