Abstract
In apparatus for cleaning and degreasing metal and other non-absorbent articles, such as small mechanical parts and lenses, by means of a spray of compressed air carrying a solvent, the compressed air feed to a spray nozzle passes successively through a dehumidifier, an air cleaner and an air heater, and is mixed with the solvent after passing through the air heater. As shown, in preferably portable apparatus the parts are mounted on a supporting base 30 provided with a control panel 31. The compressed air is supplied through a control valve 34, and pressure regulator valve 36 to the dehumidifier 39, preferably of the porous stone type, and from thence to the cleaner 42, preferably an oil film filter, the dry, clean compressed air being tapped off at the outlet 45. The tapping 46 leads to pressure taps arranged on the front of the panel and supplies cold, dry, clean compressed air, and the tapping 48 leads to a heater 49, pipe connections leading therefrom to other pressure taps on the front of the panel for supplying heated, dry, clean compressed air. The apparatus also includes solvent containers 52 which in use are <PICT:0595936/III/1> <PICT:0595936/III/2> dismounted from the supporting base 30 and placed in front of the panel. The containers are provided with exterior nozzles 57 communicating with the interior of the containers by pipes 58, Fig. 4. The nozzle 57 surrounds an interior air nozzle 56 which in use is connected to one of the pressure taps supplying heated, dry, clean compressed air. A control valve 59 enables the solvent flow to be shut off when only heated air is desired at the nozzle outlet. Chloroform is exemplified as the solvent. The heater is electrically heated and has an automatic control for keeping constant temperature. After the article to be cleaned has been sprayed with the atomized solvent and air, the valve 59 is closed and heated compressed air alone directed on to the article.
