[Class 44] In a lock of the kind having a tumbler 29 angularly movable into and out of locking position by a key, with a guard or ward plate projecting into the path of the key bit, the non- linear profile of the guard is presented by the peripheral parts of a number of discs mounted co-axially with the pivot of the tumbler 29 and including discs of different diameters. The latch bolt may be spring loaded, and withdrawn by a follower 25 on a handle-spindle 24. The casing 10 is preferably of rectangular section, of substantially similar width and depth, so as to be readily inserted in a cylindrical bore in the door, and is formed of channel sections welded together. The latch head 13 is carried by a pair of strips 15, 16, lying against the upper and lower walls of the casing, urged forwardly by spring 20, and retracted by a follower 25 on the handle spindle 24. The locking tumbler 29 is pivoted on a pin 27, and has ears 33, 34 with which the key-bit makes contact to actuate the tumbler, and the lower ear 34 engages in a slot 38 in the strip 16 to lock. The discs 31, 32 which form the guard are mounted on the pin 27 on either side of the tumbler. A leaf spring 30 holds the latter in either the locking or unlocking positions.
