Abstract
595,210. Thermionic valve circuits for amplifying. 'PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. April 6, 1945, No. 8576. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1944. [Class 40 (v)] An amplifier operating over an extended frequency range comprises two valves connected by a coupling condenser in shunt with two resistors having a constant potential device between them, the resistors having impedances high compared with that of the device at low frequencies and low compared with that of the coupling condenser. As shown, the anode of valve 10 is coupled to the grid of valve 26 through coupling condenser 23, which has a low impedance at the higher frequencies, the resistors 40 and 41 being high enough to isolate the gas discharge tube 42 so that its distributed capacity to ground does not effect the upper cut-off frequency. The resistors are made physically quite small so that they have negligible distributed capacity. At the lower frequencies, including direct current, the impedance of condenser 23 is high compared with that of resistors 40, 41, causing tube 42 to strike, thus providing a path for the lowfrequency signals. A peaking inductance 18 may be provided in the output circuit of the first valve for maintaining the output voltage at the higher frequencies.
