Abstract
595,185. Two-part couplings ; electrostatic screens. JACKSON, D., and PYE, Ltd. Sept. 27, 1943, Nos. 8971/44 (divided out of 595,178) and 6091/44. [Class 38 (i)] A socket for holding a thermionic valve or other plug-in device has contacts 20 mounted in an insulating body 42 in which is located a metal screen or screens 43 extending between certain of the contacts. The screen may be moulded into a one-piece body and skirts the guide aperture 32 so as to be in contact with an earthed socket 33 therein. The body may be enclosed or partially enclosed in a metal casing 12, 13 to which the socket 33 is electrically connected and to which the screen 43 may be attached. The body may be built up of sectors 21, Fig. 4, held in position by the outer casing and the screen may be formed integrally with the casing by folding the latter at 44. Alternatively where the outer casing consists only of a lower dished plate 12 and an upper retaining ring, a flange on this ring fits over an annular shoulder on the body sectors and the screen is attached to the ring by passing lugs on the screen through slots in the flange. The socket 33 in this construction is secured by lugs on its lower end, being held between the lower plate 12 and the sectors 21. Specifications 595,178, 595,186, and 595,187 are referred to.
