Abstract
595,011. Centrifugal fans. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. March 12, 1945, No. 6104. Convention date, March 14, 1944. [Class 110 (i)] A centrifugal blower for delivering quantities of from 0.1 to 3 cubic metres per second at a pressure ratio up to about 1.7 comprises a number of impellers of the same shape and size mounted on a common shaft and operating at peripheral speeds of up to 150 metres per second. The impellers 5 may be light metal castings or made from sheet metal by riveting or spot welding the blades 9 to the rear and front discs 7, 8. The blades 9 may have an outlet curvature directed forwards or backwards relative to the direction of rotation. The casing 1 comprises identical ring-shaped elements 1a having guide blades 16 and separating walls 10, which are joined together and connected to end covers 14, 15 by axial tie bolts 20. In addition to a main inlet 17 there may be one or more intermediate inlets 19. Packing rings 12, 13 are provided at each stage. The bearings 3 for the shaft 4 are mounted externally and the lubricant is circulated automatically. The machine may be used as a blower or for providing suction.
