Abstract
594,998. Stuffing-boxes. HANSON, E. May 8, 1944, No. 8694. Convention date, March 16, 1943. [Class 122 (v)] Packing material 7 is enclosed between compression rings 5, 6 in a housing 1, the faces of these rings which are in contact with the packing being of double bevelled form such as to press the inner parts of the packing on to the shaft 2 and the outer part on to the housing 1. The inner faces of the rings are parallel and oblique to the shaft, and one of them may be supplied with lubricant from a cup 10, being formed with a reservoir and a duct leading therefrom to the shaft surface, on which, and in the housing, the rings fit loosely. The packing means may be divided into two parts by a third ring with both faces bevelled or parallel with the end rings.
