[Class 135] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIII] A pitch adjusting mechanism for an air screw comprises a pump 37 as described in. Specification 567,710 that draws fluid from the space 24 through port 34 and delivers through port 39 to an accumulator comprising a piston 40 loaded by a spring 41. When the pressure fully depresses the piston 40, a rod 42 carried by the piston closes the suction port 34 at 43 and allows the pump to run idly. The pump is slidable axially under the influence of the centrifugal governor 50 and is shaped to act as a control valve to connect the accumulator and its own pressure space to either ports 60, 61 connected to rotary vane power devices attached to the roots of the blades 7 ; the blades are interconnected by gearing to maintain synchronism. The space 24 may be filled with fluid through the plug hole 23 or may be supplied from the engine pump 30 through ports 32, 28, 27 and tube 25 within the shaft 13. The governor spring is enclosed in an abutment casing 48a that is adjustable by the rotation of an inclined cam ring 49a that is geared with teeth on a lever 49b. The lever 49b is connected to lever 50<1> which, when moved to its extreme positions for feathering &c., also makes contacts 52, 53 to energize a motor 51 geared to the outer casing of the pump.
