Abstract

593,308. Casting concrete in situ; column centering. HAMILTON, W. June 11, 1945, No. 14780. [Class 20 (ii)] Centering for concrete columns cast in situ comprises angle pieces 10 at the corners of the centering adjustably secured in spaced relationship by locking bars 15 formed at both ends with teeth which engage similar teeth on ledges 12 formed on the outer faces of the angle pieces. The space between the angles is fitted with rectangular panels 23 which may be secured by being clamped by their edges between the angles 10 and internal angle fillets 20 which form the corner moulding faces. The clamping action is obtained by diagonal bolts 19 secured to the angle of the fillets and passing through holes in the angle of the angle pieces 10 which are reinforced by bosses 18 at these points. The locking bars may be secured in place by wedging pieces 16 which engage between the bars and projections 14 on the angle pieces spaced at an appropriate distance from the toothed ledges 12. Several angle pieces may be aligned end to end by means of lugs 11. Opposite edges of the panels 23 may be recessed from opposite faces as at 25 so that adjacent panels may interengage. The overlap of the panels with the limbs of the angle pieces is variable and the difference of the two panel dimensions may be twice the tolerance of this overlap to provide maximum variability in size of column with one set of panels, the panels being turned round when the adjustment in one direction has been exhausted. The angle pieces and fillets may be of aluminium and the panels of light alloy metal frames 24 with plywood filling.
