Abstract
Textile materials are dyed in package form by circulating through the materials a suspension of an unreduced vat dyestuff containing a dispersing agent dissolved therein, gradually adding a water-soluble inorganic salt to cause substantially complete deposition of the dyestuff from the suspension on to the material, and thereafter reducing and subsequently oxidizing the vat dyestuff by any conventional method. The materials may be of natural fibres or of viscose or cuprammonium rayon. Common salt and Glauber's salt are mentioned as suitable salts for depositing the dyestuff from the suspension, and an excess is preferably added in order to ensure that no appreciable amount of leuco compound dissolves in the circulating liquor after reduction. In an example, a suspension of "Caledon Blue RC paste fine" in water containing "Dispersol VL" (Registered Trade Mark) is circulated through cakes of viscose yarn, and common salt is gradually added to deposit the dye on the cake. The dyestuff is then reduced by circulating a solution of caustic soda, sodium hydrosulphite and Formusol through the cake, followed by washing with cold water until the dye is oxidized. Other examples include the dyeing of viscose spun yarn, loose viscose staple fibre, spun rayon piece goods, cuprammonium yarn, mercerized cotton yarn, viscose filament yarn and wool-viscose staple yarn, using various vat dyes.
