Abstract

591,635. Flexible pipes. SOLAR AIRCRAFT CO. Dec. 16, 1944, No. 25289. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1943. [Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] A flexible metal pipe 10 is joined to a metal nipple 15 of thickness greater than the metal of the pipe and telescoped within the pipe by positioning a collar 16 also of thickness greater than the metal of the pipe upon the pipe end and welding the collar and nipple together by an annular welded fillet 17 fused to the collar nipple and pipe. The collar prevents the heat of welding from burning away the pipe end. The pipe as shown is of interlocking turns of sheet metal. A nipple may be joined to each end of a flexible pipe. The nipples may carry end fittings of various shapes.
