Abstract
591,479. Laminated articles. JABLONSKY, B. May 1, 1945, No. 10990. [Classes 145 (i) and 145 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A method of making an article of curved or shaped surface comprises bonding by a suitable adhesive interlaced or interwoven strip-like wood laminµ and simultaneously shaping by pressure or heat and pressure. The low pressure required for shaping may be provided by inexpensive press tools such as wooden formers or clamps. To increase the density of the material, some of the laminµ can be compressed before interlacing. The adhesive used is preferably water-resisting, for example, of a synthetic resin type. Short strip-like laminµ may be interlaced with the main laminae, the lengths of some of which may correspond to the length of the article, to give greater strength at required points, and the article may comprise one or more interlaced layers which may be bonded together with one or more plain fibrous laminµ of paper, pulp or textile fabrics, and non-fibrous layers as of wire-netting can also be inserted. When more than one interlaced layer is used, the joints between adjoining laminµ of superposed layers can be relatively staggered, and laminµ of different width can be used in the different layers.
