591,363. Making cap-closures for bottles and the like. ENOCK, A. G. May 20, 1945, No. 6971. [Classes 94 (i) and 125 (iii)] Relates to machines for making caps for milk bottles of the type in which metal foil is drawn off a stock reel by intermittently rotating feed rollers and fed to dies which stamp the caps from the strip, pneumatic means being provided for feeding them forward from the dies. According to the invention, skirted caps are formed from aluminium foil in a machine of this type, the caps being delivered pneumatically to a magazine having a sliding plunger to receive the caps. As shown in Fig. 2, the caps are punched out from a strip by a punch C carried by a ram A and, after being formed, are blown along a passage E by a jet of compressed air from a pipe G to a detachable magazine F. The magazine may be of various cross sections, Figs. 3 to 6 (not shown), the arrangement being such that air is allowed to escape along the sides of the magazine as the caps descend. The caps are received in the magazine by a sliding plunger J supported by friction pads and pushed downwards by a second plunger J<1> on the ram A. An internal rim F' at the bottom of the magazine receives the pile of caps as the plunger leaves the magazine. In alternative constructions, two or more detachable magazines are arranged about a central pivot, the magazines being adapted to be filled in succession.
