Abstract
11-Aminoundecylic acid is prepared by reacting an aqueous, alcoholic or aqueous-alcoholic solution of ammonia with 11-bromo-undecylic acid or a mixture of 10- and 11-bromo-undecylic acid as obtained by the reaction of hydrobromic acid and 10-undecylenic acid. In examples, 11-bromundecylic acid is treated with aqueous ammonia at atmospheric temperature and pressure and also at 60 DEG C. in an autoclave. The reaction mixture is boiled, the excess ammonia recovered and the solution, after filtering left to crystallize. In other examples, methyl and ethyl alcohols are added and a mixture of 10-and 11-bromundecylic acids is used. Specification 339,675, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
