Abstract

590,162. Work benches. WILKINSON, A. Sept. 5, 1945, No. 22810. [Class 61 (ii)] A folding work-bench comprises a back portion 6 formed of L-strips 7 with a back plate 8, the lower parts 7a of the side strips 7 forming the back legs and a table portion of wood 19 and metal 20 fixed in L-strips 11 hinged at 9 to the side strips 7. The fore-legs of the table are formed from L-strips 13 hinged at 14 to the table and at 16 to pivoted struts 15. Tool clips 17 are provided on the back plate 8 which, together with the table, forms a shallow box when in the folded position. The downward movement of the table is retarded by friction means 26 comprising spring-pressed friction pads co-acting with an arcuate bar 24 which becomes wider towards the bottom so that the braking action is most effective in the horizontal position. The bench is fixed to a wall &c. by means of screws &c. passing through the holes 12 in the legs and back plate.
