[Class 20 (i)] A prefabricated building comprises an outer shell formed of vertical rectangular frames a forming the lower part of the building and arched members c forming the upper part and roof, the rooms being in the form of independent inner shells. The frames a are formed of four members a' lapped and bolted at the corners a<2>. The arches c comprise members lapped and bolted at the elbows c<2>, pinned at the crown c<3> and held in position on the frame a by pins and steel plates e. The distance apart of the frames a is such as to allow standard size doors &c. to be used. The wall panels, windows &c. are fixed behind rebates on the frame posts by wooden battens on grooved posts or wire built into the posts. Rooms are constructed independently and positioned within the outer shell and are formed of interchangeable flooring units, wall units and ceiling units of such widths that door and window openings correspond with those in the outer shell. These units are constructed of timber covered with boarding, plastic board, wall board, plywood, resin-bonded fabrics, glass tiles &c. Built-in furniture, fitments &c. may be provided. The reinforcement of the beams a may be left bare and provided with tubular rollers to enable the rooms to be rolled into position. Drains and other services enter ducts formed in the rooms and having doors to allow the services to be connected. Chimneys are formed of asbestos cement or fireclay fixed by metal clips to the concrete framework.
