Abstract
589,954. Reamers. LEE, R. May 3, 1945, No. 11265. [Class 83 (iii)] In a reamer in which the working diameter of the cutters is adjusted by the axial movement of a wedge-shaped member, the body part b has a shank a, which may be detachable, and a slot c in which slides a cross-head d having portions of screw-threads at each end in engagement with internal threads on a sleeve q. The cross-head has an extension f, the end of which bears against a wedge-shaped member g which is a loose fit in a recess i so that the cutters are self-centring. Radial slots in the body accommodate the cutters h which are held against the wedge member g by blade springs k fitting in a slot in each cutter. A cap n screwed on the end of the body and a member o within it hold the cutters in the slots. Graduations on the sleeve and an index mark on the body are provided and a locking ring r screwed on the body secures the sleeve in its adjusted position through an intermediate unthreaded ring s which is keyed in a slot x in the body.
