Abstract
589,705. Apparatus for splitting logs. BARBER, M. FOUNTAIN-. March 26, 1945, No. 7625. [Class 145 (i)] An apparatus for splitting logs, to be mounted directly on to the log, consists of a pressurefluid-actuated wedge-shaped splitter carried by a supporting frame. Two side plates 1 bridged at the top 20 have mounted between them a depending leg 3 and a hydraulic cylinder 4 which contains a ram 5 to which is attached a metal wedge 6. Pressure fluid is supplied from a tank 10 through the pipe 13 by a handoperated pump 14 and thence to a handoperated control valve 9 connected to the ends of the cylinder 4 through the pipes 7 and 8. Fluid is returned to the tank by pipe 19. The apparatus is held on the log 23 by means of a chain 22 attached to opposite sides of the bridge 20.
