Abstract
Hydrocarbon oils are cracked by contacting with a solid supported boric oxide catalyst at a temperature within the range of 700 DEG F. to 1100 DEG F., and regenerating the catalyst by burning after each period of contact which must not exceed seven minutes. The catalyst support may be alumina, or silica, or silica-alumina composites. A suitable catalyst comprises 8 to 30 per cent. boric oxide, 3 to 15 per cent. silica 0.1 to 1 per cent. sodium oxide, and the remainder alumina gel. Process periods of 3 to 5 minutes are preferred. Steam may be used as a diluent in any desired amount.
