Abstract

589,259. Stuffing - - box substitutes. CURRAN BROS., Ltd., and CURRAN, C. March 21, 1945, No. 7080. [Class 122 (v)] A sealing device for a rotary shaft 1 comprises a resilient plate 7 clamped at its outer edge between the outer surface of a chamber wall 3 and a bearing plate 4 detachably secured to the wall and having a lip which bears on a frusto-conical portion 2 of the shaft 1. The wall and its opening are both lined with a rubber covering 6, and the portion 4a of the bearing plate 4 provides a bearing for the shaft 1.
