Abstract
588,805. Glass ampoules. ROGERS, G. March 8, 1945, No. 5759. [Class 56] Apparatus for sealing ampoules or the like comprises a base 1 supporting a power-driven vertical shaft 4 carrying a spider 6 in which spindles 7 are rotatably mounted. The spindles carry clips 8 for engaging and supporting the lower ends of the ampoules and project downwardly through the spider when they are provided with friction or other gearwheels which engage a stationary annular track 2 or the like, whereby the spindles are rotated on their own axes during rotation of the spider. The upper ends of the ampoules are gripped by clips 11 slidably mounted in an upper spider 12 and rotatable gas jets play on the ampoule adjacent its neck during a part of the rotation of the shaft 4. The clips 11 are provided with members 17, 19 which at appropriate times engage cams 16, 18 first to cause the clips 11 to rise and to stretch, break and seal the softened glass and then to open to release the surplus upper end of the severed neck.
