Abstract
588,501. Jet propulsion nozzles. PEREGRINE, E. P. Feb. 19, 1945, No. 4178. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A jet nozzle 10, Fig. 6, comprises two archshaped flat-sided jaws 16 which open or close on each other about pivots 18 at the end of the delivery pipe. The space between the cooperating edges of jaws is closed by pairs of flat cheek plates 14, 15 in which they move. The root ends of the jaws are part-spherical in shape to provide a gas-tight connection with the pipe. Rotatable cranks such as pins 22 mounted on a pair of coaxial sprocket wheels 21 carried at the ends of the cheek plates are operated by an externally-controlled sprocket chain 25 to adjust the jaws.
