Abstract

<PICT:0587456/III/1> In the synthesis of hydrocarbons or alcohols by the reduction of oxides of carbon a catalyst is maintained in fluidised state in column 2, mixed with reactants supplied at 7. The mixture is passed through converter 8 and the catalyst and reaction products are separated in cyclones 13, 15. Part of the catalyst returns to column 2, another part may be suspended in hydrogen and passed through regenerator 35. The regenerated catalyst is separated from the gaseous products and either recycled through the regenerator or mixed with the reaction gas by pipe 49. Specification 558,879 is referred to.ALSO:<PICT:0587456/IV/1> The synthesis of liquid hydrocarbons, methanol and other alcohols or by the reduction of oxides of carbon is effected by feeding finely divided catalyst from a column 2 into a current of reaction gas admitted at 7, passing the mixture through a reaction chamber 8, separating the catalyst from the reaction products in cyclones 13, 15 and condensing the latter. At least a part of the catalyst is returned to column 2, but a part may be suspended in a current of hydrogen and passed through a regenerator 35, the regenerated catalyst being separated from the regeneration products and recycled through the regenerator or returned to the reaction gas by pipe 49. For the synthesis of hydrocarbons the reactants may be under a pressure of 23 lb. per sq. in. and the temperature may be 410 DEG F. For the synthesis of alcohols a pressure of 200 atmospheres and temperatures of 525-850 DEG F. are employed. Specification 558,879, [Group III], is referred to.
