Abstract

Apparatus for indicating the presence of noncondensable gases in, or purging non-condensable gases from, the vapour of a highly volatile liquid, e.g., propane in a drum 11 comprises a bulb 13 containing propane and propane vapour free from air, immersed in the propane in the drum 11 and connected to one limb of a U-tube 12 containing mercury. The other limb is connected to the vapour space of the drum. Differential pressure due to air in the drum moves a float 14 to operate an indicating device 15. A venting <PICT:0586530/III/1> valve 19 may be operated by the float or manually. The U-tube may be replaced by a diaphragm.
