Abstract
Dyes of the formula <FORM:0586211/IV/1> wherein R is an aromatic or heterocyclic radical are prepared by coupling of the appropriate phenols and diazonium compounds. 4-(Carboxybenzeneazo)-1-naphthol is prepared by coupling diazotized anthranilic acid with a -naphthol, 1 - hydroxy - 4 - benzeneazo - 2 - naphthanilide by coupling diazotized aniline with 1-hydroxy-2-naphthanilide, and 1 - hydroxy - 4 - (p - methoxy - benzeneazo)-2-N-n-amylnaphthanilide by coupling diazotized p - methoxyaniline with 1-hydroxy-2-N-n-amylnaphthanilide. Other dyes similarly prepared are benzeneazo-1-naphthol, benzeneazo-5-(N-g -phenyl-n-propyl-sec-amylbenzamido) - 1 - naphthol, and benzeneazo - 5 - p - toluenesulphonamido) - 1 - naphthol, and the corresponding 4-substituted hydroxy-, sulphonic acid-, sulphonamide-, dimethylamino-, acetylamino-, carboxylic acid-, and methoxycompounds; 5-(51-carboxy-21-isopropylbenzeneazo) - 8 - hydroxyquinoline, 2 - a - (p - tert. - amyl - phenoxy) - butyramido - 4 - p - sulphamylbenzeneazo)-5-methylphenol, 2-a -(p-tert.-amylphenoxy)-butyramido-4-(p-acetamidobenzeneazo) -phenol, 2 - chloro - 4 - (2 - benzthiazolylazo) - 1 - naphthol, and 2-(p-tert.-amylbenzoylamino)-4-(2-quinolylazo)-5-methylphenol.
