Abstract

586,107. Projectiles. BRIDGE, J. F., and SHAW, W. Jan. 10, 1939, No. 852. [Class 9 (i)] A steel cap 1 for an armourpiercingproj ectile 7 having on its front face a central hardened knob 2 and behind the knob a hardened annular protrusion 3, has the central part of the annular protrusion positioned in front of a plane transverse to the axis of the cap and passing through the point .of the projectile, the face of the cap being directed forwardly and outwardly so that lines normal to the middle portion of the protrusion on opposite sides of the cap intersect within the head of the projectile. The knob leads by smooth curves 4 to the protrusion 3 which also leads by smooth curves 5 to the periphery of the cap. Preferably, the whole of the front face is hardened, the hardness gradually decreasing towards the rear end 6. The usual windshield or outer cap 8 is screwed to the inner cap at 9.
