Abstract
586,089. Snap-action switches. PRENTICE, H. B., and GINN, J. W. Nov. 15, 1944, No. 22566. [Class 38 (v)] In a single or multi-pole switch, at least one movable contact is operated by a projection, e.g., a pin 17, co-acting with a cam-track 12 arranged about the axis of the operating spindle 9, one of the parts being fixed so that rotation of the spindle produces axial displacement which operates the movable contact by means of an insulating bridge 8 arranged between the end of the spindle and the contact 5. In Fig. 1 the contact 5 is biassed upwards by spring 7 to bridge contacts 2, but in another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the contact is urged away from the contacts by the spring. The cam-track 12, preferably comprises two parts such as in Fig. 3, and each may be provided with a stop 19, to prevent backlash of the spindle, and a recess 18 to hold the spindle in its lower position.
