Abstract

585,796. Cooling-towers. KIER & CO., Ltd., J. L., WESTERGAARD, O. L. B., and BRANCZIK, K. W. March 26, 1943, No. 4968. [Class 55 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] An irrigation element for a cooling tower, of moulded or cast concrete &c. comprises a pair of side walls 1, which simulate weather boards or parallel-sided laths, and integral end and, if desired, transverse walls 2, 3 respectively, the underside of the end walls 2 being provided with bearing faces 4 by which the element may rest on its bearers C at the required inclination to the vertical plane. As shown in Fig. 4 the elements are arranged with alternate elements across one bay of the tower, the intermediate elements being disposed across an adjacent bay. In a modification, Fig. 7, bearing faces 4 are also provided on the upper faces of the end walls 2 so that a horizontal series of elements in one bay may be supported by the corresponding ends of the elements in the next lower series in both the two adjacent bays.
