Abstract

584,215. Four-stroke engines: BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and PERKINS, H. Dec. 15, 1944, No. 25173. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In a. twin cylinder motor cycle engine having parallel cylinders and crankshafts 17 geared together so that the crank pins are always in a plane transverse to the cylinder axes, one crankshaft is. connected to the driving, member of a clutch. This crankshaft is also preferably connected through gearing 29, 31, 33 to the camshaft 35 and a dynamo, the other shaft being connected by worm gearing to a distributor and lubricating pump. The cylinders are slightly staggered to make the unit compact but the cooling fins assimilate a truly in-line engine. Valve gear push rods 45 extend in pairs through housing 47 arranged one behind the other to allow free flow of air between the cylinders.
