Abstract

583,540. Roofing tiles &c. STEANE, J. June 17, 1944, No. 11579. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A roofing member comprises a rectangular sheet of asbestos cement or other composition formed with a series of steps 2 extending completely across it parallel to the eaves and ridge beam. The inner face 3 may be plane or stepped with the step edges rounded off. Reinforcement rods, wires or fabric strips may be disposed, e.g., in the step risers. The upper end 16 is extended to engage a recess 15 in the lower end of the sheet above it which has a groove or grooves 17 to prevent capillary attraction of moisture between the overlapping surfaces. The abutting edges of adjacent sheets preferably lie over a rafter 8 so arranged as to accommodate a small lead &c. gutter 9 with channels 10, 11, 12. The sheets are nailed or screwed to the rafters or bolted or clipped to steel roof framework by corrosion-resisting fastenings. They may be coloured to represent tiles or slates, or when arranged with the step risers directed upwardly, form a support for ordinary tiles &c.
