583,012. Magnetic compasses. WATTS & SON, Ltd., E. R., and WHIPPLE, G. A. Sept. 21, 1944, No. 18043. [Class 97 (ii)] A compass comprises a dial 4, which may be a disc with degrees ongraved or printed on it or star-shaped to indicate the cardinal and intermediate points, formed wholly of magnetic material and magnetized so that its polarity agrees with the N-S lines printed on it and mounted on.a pivot 6 for rotation in a casing 1 which has at least its two opposite faces formed of transparent material. The casing may be moulded in transparent plastic in which case one face is integral therewith and the other face carrying the pivot is secured in position.
